Araneta City hosts inaugural Philippines Open Pool Champion

The City of First becomes a hub of world-class pool with the launch of the first-ever Philippines Open Pool Championship, a brand-new Matchroom Major taking place on October 21 to 26 at the Quantum Skyview of Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City.

In partnership with Puyat Sports, the Philippines Open follows the Reyes Cup held earlier in the same month.

The Philippines Open will feature a 128-player field, bringing together the very best from across the globe. The highest ranked 64 WNT Pros who enter will be seeded, while the remaining 64 spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, giving unseeded challengers the chance to take on the sport’s biggest names. Round 1 will see seeded stars drawn directly against unseeded challengers, ensuring drama from the opening break. This is a single elimination event — one loss and you’re out, making every match a high-pressure battle.

The Philippines Open will welcome a world-class lineup of stars ready to battle it out for the inaugural title, featuring top names such as:

  • Carlo Biado, reigning World Champion
  • Johann Chua, reigning Hanoi Open champion
  • Francisco Sánchez Ruiz, former World Champion
  • Jayson Shaw, seven-time Mosconi Cup winner
  • Anton Raga
  • David Alcaide
  • Duong Quoc Hoang
  • Bernie Regalario
  • Mickey Krause
  • James Aranas

And with many more top players set to join, the elite field promises fans the very best of both established champions and hungry young challengers under one roof.

With a prize fund of $125,000, including $30,000 for the champion, Puyat Sports and Matchroom are making a major investment into the growth of nineball in the Philippines.

A landmark moment for the sport in Southeast Asia, this historic tournament puts the Philippines — one of nineball’s most passionate nations — firmly on the Tour’s center stage.
